SEED has arrived!!

SEED North East (also known as the Schools Environmental Education Directory) is a website that has been created for teachers to access a "One Stop Shop" of environmental teaching resources. It was officically launched by MP Sophie Mirrabella and NevRwaste Chair Peter Graham on Wednesday the 19th of November. Check out the SEED website now!



Finally - computer recycling locally!

During October and November North East Victorian Councils participated in the Byteback™ initiative by operating temporary drop off facilities for unwanted computer equipment and peripherals.  4.5 tonnes of materials were collected in October alone, and taken to a Byteback™ site for recycling. What a RONNIE!

NevRwaste and Resource GV have developed an advertisement to help householders keep recyclables out of their 'little' rubbish bins. 'Rubbish Ronnie' will join 'Recycling Annie' on televisions around the region very soon! To read please click here.



Do the right thing at Winton

Winton Motor Raceway in Benalla has received a grant from Sustainability Victoria to introduce a permanent public place recycling system to their grounds. The system hopes to recover over 26 tonnes of recyclables annually. To read more click here.



Don't be a Tosser!!!

This years "Don't be a Tosser in the North East" camapaign, supported by Sustainability Victoria, assisted enforcement officers to develop strategies for litter enforcement in the region. Click here to find out more.



Green purchasing champions

At this years Green Pruchasing awards, Falls Creek became the 2006/2007 champion in the alpine resorts category, the Alpine Shire Council became the 2006/2007 champion in the small rural local government category and the Rural City of Wangaratta received a certificate of achievement for their greenhouse friendly purchasing. To read more about their tremendous efforts please visit the Ecobuy website.

  Indigo
  • Monthly DrumMuster collection now offered at the Rutherglen transfer station on the first Friday of each month.
  • Now offering polystyrene foam collections at transfer stations
  • A free waste engine oil disposal facility is available at the Beechworth and Rutherglen transfer stations. Used plastic oil containers up to 5 litres can also be dropped off at the sites

  Mansfield
  • Undertaking regular litter enforcement patrols with local laws
  • Regular survey's of cigarette butt litter in the Mansfield CBD with results published in local newspapers

  • Audits showed 49% of waste is recycled via public place recycling

  • Trialling Worm Farm for organic waste generated from ARMB office staff

  Towong
  • Installed 2 x 3 m3 cardboard and paper recycling skips at the Tallangatta transfer station. Paper, cardboard and containers (plastic, aluminium, steel and glass) can all be recycled free of cost at Corryong landfill and Tallangatta transfer station.

  • 130 Mattresses collected from Wangaratta Transfer Station by Dreamsafe to be recycled

  • The whole community now has access to household two bin rubbish and recycling service
  • Wodonga's recovery sales shop is open for business
